Mens Support Networks
One of my other passions in life (apart from technology) is my involvement in a Men’s Support community,Men’s Wellbeing, here in South East Queensland.
I was first drawn to Men’s Wellbeing, a non for profit organisation, a number of years ago when I was going through a particularly ‘challenging’ period of my life and seeking clarity in a number of areas. After checking out a number of options, I was really drawn to the the Common Ground facilitated Mens Group program. Ran once a night over 9 weeks, I found it an invaluable experience, allowing me to explore many areas that affect today’s men, including relationships, fatherhood, masculinity, sex & love and self awareness. The connections that I made with the other guys on the program was very satisfying and the style of the facilitators was very empathetic and supportive. I have since been an active member of an ongoing mens group that meets on a fortnightly basis, and provides me with the great opportunity to share the ‘real stuff’ that going on for me in my life in a safe and supportive environment.
Men’s Wellbeing also organise Mens Gatherings three times a year on the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and more recently Cairns. I find these gatherings a great opportunity to hang out with a great bunch of likeminded men (typically 100+) in a clean community without alcohol and drugs. Apart from reconnecting with my ‘brothers’, there’s a great range of workshops to attend, covering a wide range of topics from relationships to healthy living. And it’s great fun as well with cabaret nights and sports events.
My Mens support community is now an integral part of my life, with lots of lifelong friends made that are there to support me when ever life throws an edgy ‘challenge’ my way. It’s taught me to connect more with myself and others and all told my life feels a lot richer.
Feel free to contact me if you’d like any more information.
